On Friday, the city of Memphis released four videos of the violent encounter between Tyre Nichols, 29, and five former police officers charged with murder.
Nichols can be heard yelling “Damn, I didn’t do anything … I am just trying to go home,” as he is being dragged out from his car and forced to the ground by police officers.
The footage shows how the officers, all Black, pin Nichols down and brutally beat him for three minutes, punching and kicking him, but also striking him with what appears to be a rod.
Nichols was hospitalized, but died three days later. The five officers were dismissed and charged with second-degree murder, assault, kidnapping, official misconduct and oppression.
