Moderna is considering increasing the price of its COVID-19 vaccine by more than 400%, from $26 per dose to between $110 and $130 per dose, according to The Wall Steet Journal.
On Monday, Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel said at the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco, that the 400% price hike “is consistent with the value”.
Previously, the US government purchased Moderna’s and Pfizer-BioNTech’s vaccine for between $26 and $30 per dose, and distributed it to Americans for free.
However, the program is coming to an end and vaccine makers are moving to the commercial market. In October, Pfzer also announced plans to raise the price to between $110 and $130 per dose.
In 2023, Moderna expects to make a minimum of $5 billion in COVID-19 vaccine sales.
