On Sunday, hundreds of supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro stormed the National Congress building in Brasilia.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who was inaugurated one week ago, condemned the act and has declared a federal intervention with troops on standby.
“We will find out who these vandals are, and they will be brought down with the full force of the law.”

Supporters of the former president refused to accept the election results, claiming the election was stolen and calling for a military intervention to restore Bolsonaro to power.
After hours of chaos, Brazilian police have retaken the National Congress building after pro-Bolsonaro protesters stormed Brazilian institutions.
Bolsonaro made a post on Twitter, condemning the “pillaging and invasion of public buildings”.
