On Saturday, Iran executed Mohammad Mehdi Karami, 21, a karate champion and Seyed Mohammad Hosseini, 20, a volunteer children’s coach, following nationwide protests.
Last year, the pair were convicted of killing Seyed Ruhollah Ajamian, a member of the Basij paramilitary force, during anti-regime protests, according to Iran’s judiciary news agency Mizan.
The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the EU have urged Iran to halt the executions and to provide due process to all detainees.
On Friday, several Hollywood stars including Cate Blanchett, Jason Momoa, Bryan Cranston and Olivia Wilde called for an end to executions in Iran.
