Berlin’s Giant AquaDom Aquarium Containing 1,500 Fish Bursts

On Friday, two people were injured after an aquarium containing 1,500 tropical fish burst at the Radisson Blu hotel in the German capital of Berlin.

Over 100 firefighters were called to the DomAquaree building after the 16-meter high AquaDom aquarium tank containing 1,500 tropical fish burst.

The aquarium was filled by over a million liters of salt water, which spilled over like a “veritable tsunami” onto the street outside, according to Mayor Franziska Giffey.

Two people were injured by glass splinters and most of the 1,500 fish from the aquarium died, the cause of the incident remains unknown.

A popular tourist attraction, the AquaDom was “the world’s largest freestanding cylindrical aquarium,” according to the DomAquaree.
