Bolsonaro Supporters Attack Police Headquarters in Brazil

On Monday, supporters of Brazil’s incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro attempted to storm the federal police headquarters in the capital of Brasilia.

“The depredation and attempted invasion of the Federal Police building in Brasilia is unacceptable.”

The violence erupted following the arrest of Bolsonaro supporter José Acácio Serere Xavante, on suspicion of participating in anti-democratic protests.

Bolsonaro supporters wearing yellow national soccer jerseys confronted security forces at the police headquarters in Brasilia.

Police fired stun grenades and tear gas to disperse the crowd, nearby buses and cars were set on fire, according to Reuters.

The post-election violence took place on the day Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was officially certified as the country’s next president.
