On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden signed the bipartisan Respect for Marriage Act, codifying into law protection for same-sex and interracial couples.

The law does not guarantee the right to marry, but states must recognize same-sex marriages across state lines and receive the same federal benefits as any married couple.
The Democrats together with twelve Republican senators and 39 GOP representatives passed the bill 258-168 in the House and 61-36 in the Senate.
