Mercedes is the latest automaker to lock features behind a subscription model, charging drivers to access motor performance the vehicle is already capable of.
The $1,200 yearly “Acceleration Increase” add-on will boost motor output by 20-24%, increase torque, and shaving to 0.8-0.9s off 0-60 mph acceleration when in Dynamic drive mode, according to The Drive.
The subscription doesn’t include any physical hardware improvements, it simply unlocks the vehicle’s full capabilities, which means Mercedes has intentionally limited its car.
The subscription upgrade is only available for the Mercedes-EQ EQE and Mercedes-EQ EQS electric car models.
