On Tuesday, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro addressed the nation after losing Sunday’s election, but he did not concede defeat, nor congratulate Lula on his victory.
Following Bolsonaro’s short speech, his chief of staff Ciro Nogueira took the podium to announce that the government would start the transition of power.
“President Bolsonaro has authorized me — when requested, based on the law — to start the transition process.”

The Supreme Electoral Court declared Leftist leader Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva winner after attaining 50.9% of the votes against Bolsonaro’s 49.1%.
However, Bolsonaro supporters took to the streets to contest the election results and blocked roads around the country. Bolsonaro thanked his supporters but asked them to cease the blockades.
