On Friday, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband was “violently assaulted” by an assailant with a hammer in their home in San Francisco.
“The suspect pulled the hammer away from Mr Pelosi and violently assaulted him with it. Our officers immediately tackled the suspect, disarmed him, took him into custody, requested emergency backup and rendered medical aid.”

Paul Pelosi, 82, was taken to the hospital, where he “underwent successful surgery to repair a skull fracture” and other injuries, and is expected to make a “full recovery”.
San Francisco police identified the suspect as David Depape, 42, who has been charged with attempted homicide, elder abuse and other felonies, motive remains unknown.
