Steve Bannon, a former Trump advisor has been sentenced to four months in prison and fined $6,500 for refusing to cooperate in the investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
The House held Bannon in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a select committee subpoena for documents and testimony.
His lawyer argued the subpoena would violate Trump’s executive privilege, which the former President raised when Bannon was first served with the subpoena.
Federal Judge Carl Nichols agreed with prosecutors that Bannon had “not expressed remorse and has attacked the select committee at every turn,” and ruled against him.
Prosecutors wanted to sentence Bannon the maximum federal sentencing guideline of six months in prison and the maximum fine of $200,000.
