Netflix Will Crackdown On Password-Sharing In ‘Early 2023’

In 2023, Netflix will crackdown on password sharing in an effort to “monetize account sharing,” users will have to transfer profiles to new accounts or create sub-accounts.

In Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru, the company started charging for a sub-account if Netflix detected someone using the account outside of their household.

In Argentina, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic users could buy additional “homes” for accounts located outside the primary household.

This quarter, the streaming service gained 2.4 million subscribers, with 104,000 in the US and Canada, according to Netflix’s earning report.

Last quarter, Netflix lost subscribers for the first time in 10 years, with up to 1.3 million in the US and Canada, and by 1 million globally.

Last month, Netflix announced a new ad-supported subscription tier for $6.99 a month, coming later this year.
