Last year, William Shatner, 90, became the oldest living person to travel into space onboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space shuttle.
However, the Star Trek actor has now revealed his mixed feelings of his voyage into space in his recently published book, Variety reports.
“It was among the strongest feelings of grief I have ever encountered. The contrast between the vicious coldness of space and the warm nurturing of Earth below filled me with overwhelming sadness. Every day, we are confronted with the knowledge of further destruction of Earth at our hands.”

This feeling better known as the “Overview Effect” is not an uncommon experience among astronauts, including Yuri Gagarin, Michael Collins, Sally Ride, and many others.
Essentially, when one travels to space and views Earth from orbit, a person may experience a sense of Earth’s fragility take hold in an instinctive manner.
