The 2022 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to French author Annie Ernaux for her deceptively simple novels drawing on personal experience of class and gender.
Ernaux was honoured “for the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory.”

Ernaux, 82, has written more than 20 books, many of which have become school texts in France for decades, offering a subtle, insightful windows into the social life of modern France.
Arguably the most prestigious award in the world, the Nobel Prize in literature is awarded by the Swedish Academy, worth 10 million Swedish crowns ($915,000).
