On Friday, Iranian authorities denied allegations of security forces killing a 16-year-old girl during protests, claim she committed suicide by falling off a roof.
Sarina Esmaeilzadeh was allegedly killed by security forces after being struck on the head by batons while protesting the death of Mahsa Amini, according to Amnesty International.
Chief justice Hossein Fazeli Herikandi claims she committed suicide from a five-story building, and that Esmaeilzadeh had a history of suicide attempts, based on her mother’s account.
Earlier this week, authorities also claimed that 17-year-old Nika Shakarami had died after falling off a roof, while activists claim she was killed during demonstrations.
