On Friday, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to introduce a new system starting in April 2025 that requires new buildings and houses to install solar panels.
New homes and buildings with a total floor area of less than 2,000 square meters will be subject to the new system, excluding homes with roof space of less than 20 square meters.
Firms will not have to install solar panels on all buildings, but need to meet a total share of all their buildings that must install the solar panels.
The move will make Tokyo the first prefecture in Japan to require that solar panels be installed on all new houses.
