On Wednesday, the US urged Israel to review rules of engagement in the occupied West Bank after it launched a series of military operations in the area.
Following a series of deadly Palestinian attacks in Israeli cities, Israel has increased its incursions into the West Bank.

Washington wants Israel to reconsider its rules of engagement following the death of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh on May 11.

Palestinians accuse Israel of intentionally targeting Abu Akleh, who was reporting an Israeli raid in the city of Jenin, Israel denies this.
"Israel has expressed sorrow over the journalist's death. It was a tragedy that transpired in an incident in which there was heavy enemy fire ... The IDF (Israel Defence Forces) never intentionally shoots at innocent people."

- Yair Lapid, Prime Minister of Israel
