On Thursday, Thomas Webster, a retired New York City police officer and former Marine was sentenced to 10 years in prison for assaulting police at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
On May 2, Webster was found guilty on six criminal counts for assaulting a Washington Metropolitan Police Officer and attempting to hit officers with a metal flagpole.
Webster illegally entered the Capitol grounds and was part of a mob facing metal barricades erected by officers to protect the Lower West Plaza area of the Capitol.
The former officer then broke through the barricade and swung his flagpole at a cop, later tackling him and choking him with the chinstrap of his gas mask.
Over 860 people have been arrested for offenses related to the Jan. 6 riot, where more than 260 have been charged with assaulting or obstructing police.
