Alex Jones to Pay $49.3 Million in Damages for Sandy Hook Hoax Claims

On Friday, a Texas jury ruled that conspiracy theorist Alex Jones must pay a total of $49.3 million in damages after falsely claiming the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax.
The jury awarded the parents of a child that died, $4.1 million in compensatory damages and an additional $45.2 million in punitive damages.

Scarlett Lewis and Neil Heslin, the separated parents of 6-year-old Jesse Lewis killed in the school shooting, had sought at least $150 million.

They claim the right-wing host's misinformation about the 2012 massacre, had caused them emotional distress and led to harassment from his followers.
Twenty children and six educators died at the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
