Medicare Could Save Billions by Buying Generic Drugs From Cuban’s Pharmacy, Study Finds

In 2020, Medicare could have saved up to $3.6 billion if Mark Cuban's online pharmacy had been around, study finds.
To determine potential savings, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School compared the price of 89 generic drugs sold by Cuban to the price paid by Medicare in 2020.

The program could have saved an estimate of $3.6 billion, 37% of the total cost of 77 generic medications.

The study was limited to the generic drugs available at Cuban's pharmacy.
In January 2022, the billionaire entrepreneur launched a direct-to-consumer online pharmacy called Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Co.

The 100-plus generic prescription drugs are charged for the cost of ingredients and manufacturing, a 15% profit margin, a $3 pharmacy dispensing fee, and a $5 delivery fee.
