The Human Genome Has Been Fully Sequenced

In 2001, the Human Genome Project mapped the first human genome, however it wasn't full or accurate.

By filling in the gaps and correcting the mistakes in the earlier version, scientists have now finished the most thorough human genome sequencing to date.
Scientists will start to construct more comprehensive genomes using both maternal and paternal DNA to find optimal targets for novel medicines.

The ultimate goal is to sequence every person's whole genome as part of their medical record.

This would enable physicians to compare each person's sequence to a reference sequence and identify any mutations that may be causing specific disorders.
