A territorial dispute between Denmark and Canada has come to an end, with the two nations agreeing to divide the tiny Arctic island between them.
In 1973, Canada and Denmark agreed to establish a border across the Nares Strait, which is located halfway between Greenland and Canada.
However, they couldn't agree on which nation would have sovereignty over Hans Island, located in the Nares Strait.
In the following years, a territorial dispute arose, nicknamed the "Whisky War".
In 1984, Canadians raised their flag and left a bottle of Canadian brandy on the island.
Soon after, Greenland's Minister took a trip to the island, planting the Danish flag, a bottle of Danish schnapps, and a note saying "Welcome to the Danish Island."
Since then, both parties have made repeated journeys to collect and replace the items belonging to the other party.
